Thank You for TenFourFox, and a suggestion
Thank you for TenFourFox.
For everyone having SLOWNESS problems. When I first installed this, it was unusable. Just starting it up with a blank home page maxed out both CPUs. I am running on a MDD tower G4, dual 1.25 Ghz, 2GB RAM, OS X 10.5.8. Going to ANY website was an exercise in patience. Minutes to load. 15 seconds between hitting page down and seeing any response. Of course Safari was just fine.
For other reasons, I did a re-install of OS X. 10.5 and immediately did the combo update to 10.5.8, and then the Java updates. After getting some other things installed and working, I tried TenFourFox again. I am astonished at the difference.
This is running fine now. CPUs at around 10% after the page loads, around 50-75% during loading which is MUCH faster than before. Nearly as fast as 7 year old Safari, but of course everything renders correctly.
My previous install of 10.5.8 was at least 10 years old. I have no idea what specifically the problem was. But a new install made all the difference.
So my suggestion is to the users. If at all possible, try it on a clean install of OS X.

Always a good recommendation when dealing with software that requires a lot from the machine, which, due to the increasing complexity of modern web pages, TenFourFox does.

Cameron,
I see you have a quad core G5. I just got one for cheap. It is VERY nice, but it clearly has a cooling problem. It is not leaking, but CPU A overheats quite fast and the machine shuts down, particularly when running TenFourFox! CPU A is always about 20 degrees C hotter than CPU B.
I am in the process of getting the tools and supplies to remove/fix the LCS. I THINK it just needs more coolant and/or new thermal paste on the CPUs. The pump is running, but the radiator is not hot at all. Have you ever done this? Ever had any cooling issues on your quad G5?
There are several nice howtos and things on the net, and I have read them all. Just wondering if you have been down this road before. My quad has a single pump Delphi LCS. It was built in April 2006.
Also, is it possible to email you or otherwise take this discussion somewhere else? I don't see that option now.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

My Quad has refurbished CPUs and new LCSes. I did not rehabilitate them myself; I got new units from an Apple certified retailer and just swapped them out. The details are here: http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2014/04/long-life-computing-plus-qua...
