Toolbar in version 31.0 is too light and frustrating to see.

It's icons are grayed-out, with no option to "Customize" darkness-lightness.

It is also too small for those of us that can no longer read 9-point Font. Duh !

Do you have a screenshot illustrating your problem? From your description, I can't guess what you mean. There was never an option to customize "lightness", and if all icons are greyed out, this seems more like a profile related problem.

This looks completely normal to me. That's the Australis interface, the same one Firefox has. You have several options:

    1) You can file a bug at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ if you think the font is too small or generally unreadable
    2) You can use a persona (skin) with higher contrast: https://addons.mozilla.org/mk/firefox/themes/?sort=popular
    3) You can tweak chrome (interface) font setting via userChrome.css (expert level) as detailed here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Firefox_tweaks
    4) You can install an add-on that lets you change the font size https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/

    I recommend a combination of options 2 and 4.
