Downloading with 104Fox
IMO you need to keep some kind of download window open during downloads -- or at least give the user the option to do so -- the way Firefox does (or at least did in older versions). I thought my DiskImageMounter wasn't working and/or the system was corrupted somehow because I couldn't get .dmg files to mount. Turns out I was downloading a really big file and didn't realize it hadn't completed downloading. Yes I know about command-J to bring the Download page up, but it would be helpful to have a smaller download window open up automatically as a d/l is happening.

Downloads are changing significantly with the new Firefox interface -- you can try 21 if you like and get some idea of the differences. Among other things, there is a download in progress indicator on the window.
Although I appreciate interface suggestions, in general unless it's something easy to implement or merge I try to avoid diverging from regular Firefox while we remain at source parity -- it may clash with a feature Firefox is implementing, and it makes maintenance more difficult. Australis may change this even further.

I'm using 21. Unless you proactively bring up that big cumbersome download page you have no idea what's going on with your download.
I don't know who at Mozilla had the bright idea to get rid of that small window that stays open as a download is happening but they suck.

I have the same problem. I would like my current download to be shown on the lower right corner of my browser window like in FireFox. Is that not possible in TenFourFox?

The stable version of TenFourFox is 17. If you're using this, you'll get the old download window when a download starts.
If you want to try the unstable version (http://tenfourfox.blogspot.de/2013/09/2202-available-damn-it-plus-b...) you'll basically get the recent Firefox interface with an arrow button top right. The arrow button can be removed from the URL bar if you don't like it, or it can be moved to the lower right corner into the add-on bar. It gives you a live download status, and an overlay with more info if you click it.
The functionality of the old download window is now integrated in the Library (click "show all downloads" or hit cmd+J). This window can stay open and can be resized and moved to any position on screen as you like it.
This new interface will also be in the next stable verion (24), which is in the works right now.

Thanks for the response. I'll try the unstable version. I'll look forward to the next stable version. : )
