Question: El Capitan support for Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 580

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 with ElCapitan and HighSierra installed. I've upgraded the GPU to a Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5, so that I can upgrade the HighSierra partition to Mojave. The card works fine when booted into HighSierra, but the display is pretty messed up when booted into ElCapitan - the screen slowly redraws any time I move the mouse at all, so pretty unusable. (With a 30" Apple Cinema HD Display).

I gather that the "metal" cards are not supposed to be compatible with ElCapitan, but I wonder if there's some workaround (e.g. install HighSierra drivers into ElCapitan ?).

P.S. In case it helps someone ... I got around the absence of a boot screen on the RX580 by installing a third party boot manager called rEFInd-GOPFix (https://github.com/dakanji/Refind-GOPFix/releases/tag/v0.12.0.B).

Not sure it is just a 'Metal' card problem, my MacPro has a Nvidia GTX 680 which is a 'Metal' card and runs

Lion, El Capitan, Sierra, Mojave and Catalina all perfectly well. It seems that the RX 580 needs the SSE4.2

instruction set which El Capitan does not have, not sure if you can just swap in kexts from a newer OS to an

older one that sort of line of enquiry is frowned upon in these here parts. Think outside the box.

Not sure what you mean by "that sort of line of enquiry is frowned upon in these here parts". You saying this violates some sort of forum rules ?

Can you provide some suggestions for how I might solve this problem by thinking "outside the box" ?

Okay, hacks to the mac OS system are frowned upon these here parts as they go against the T&C's of these communities

and thinking outside the box was meant to nudge you in the direction of exploring outwith the confines of these

communities and using your own imagination to enquire through the use of other non official mac circles.
