Unable to view Barclays banking site
Hello,
I have been unable to view Barclays web banking (https://bank.barclays.co.uk/) since the summer, when they seem to have made some changes to their web site. I have tried all the latest versions of TenFourFox, but just get a blank page when loading has stopped.
I get past the login page successfully, but after that I cannot progress because there is just a blank page presented.
I have tried the different user agents from the preferences, but this makes no difference. I have also tried wider and narrower windows (to fake a phone) but this also makes no difference.
There is some HTML viewable in the source for the blank page, but nothing renders on screen.

I also use Barclays, but it's the German dependency, which is now a daughter of Barclays Bank Ireland PLC, and has a completely different website. My login doesn't work on the UK site, so I cannot test this. If you're on 10.5, you can try loading the website with Leopard Webkit, if it works there we'll have an idea what the problem is.

Not 100% sure what you mean by use "Leopard Webkit". I tried Safari
5.0.6 on 10.5, and it cannot make the secure connection, same is true
for Firefox 3.6.28 (I think these are the last supported versions for
10.5).
I installed TenFourFox FPR 18 on 10.5 (G5), and it seems to display
exactly the same issue as I've indicated with TenFourFox on 10.4.
If there's something else I should try please let me know.

Just to be clear, I am generally using MacOS X 10.4, and that this issue affects TenFourFox FPR18 and previous releases (I did try down-grading at one point, but that didn't make a difference).
I suspect that ther problem is related to changes in the Barclays web site code base, most probably related to JavaScript (because when using a browser that does load properly, you get a header and footer loading, then a timer, then the main page).
With TenFourFox right now I do not get the header and footer loading, just a completely blank page (though there is HTML when viewing the source).

It updates your Safari 5.x to a much more modern version.
You're probably right about the JavaScript problems. When you see the blank page in TenFourFox, do you get any JS errors in the web console (Tools>Web Developer>Web Console)?

The Leopard webkit works, although it is v-e-r-y s-l-o-w.
Is there a way to transplant that into 10.4?
I looked at the errors generated after the login, and they are attached as a text file (I couldn't figure out how to neatly save the output, so just slected the text and pasted into a file).
The page that loads, although blank, isn't completely dead - because it logs me out after a period of inactivity.

Sadly, there is no realistic way to transplant LWK to 10.4. The only option on PPC Macs to load websites that make use of this kind of JavaScript you have right now is 10.5 + LWK.

Is it likely to be fixed, given that I am unlikely to be able to persuade the bank to significantly change its JS?
Is there another solution for Intel Macs running 10.4?
I can probably suffer the 10.5/G5/Leopard Webkit speed for the few things I need to access that way - thanks for th pointer.

For Intel Macs running 10.4/10.5 (and even 10.6) I don't think there's a solution at all, so I guess we're better off on PPC (provided you're on 10.5) with the combination of TFF and LWK covering most cases.

Well, I'm using TFF (G3) on 10.4 Intel, so that's generally a solution. The last Safari and Firefox for 10.6 seem to run mostly ok (at least as far as https goes), but don't deal with the Barclays site any better than TFF.
From the blog post you reference it seems that we have a remote chance that the fix may be found in TFF, and an equally remote chance that site developers/Uglify will fix the problem themselves.
