Hello!
I am ( very ! ) new to Apple, and do not yet know how quite a few things about 'how they work...'
So: I have installed TenFourFox on two iBook G4's, a 12' and a 14", both running OS 10.4.11
Everything is just fine...browsing is fun & pretty quick...Happy Me!
However: after I Download the Update / See it in the Archive Utility / watch it Unarchive...it all disappears..(!?)...and, I do not know what to do after it's Unarchived...

( I will say that I'm decent with hardware: I've cloned the original OS to mSATA SSD's, and taken apart & successfully installed these SSD's in both G4's, and all seems just fine...it's 'just' that I do not know how Apple deals with Downloads & the installation thereof.

I look forward to learning!

Thanks. Michael.

There should be a file named TenFourFox(something).app in that directory after it unarchives. The (something) will be either G3, 7400, 7450 or G5 (in your case probably TenFourFox7450).

Thanks for your kind & timely assistance...I appreciate it.

Here's where I am: after the Archive Utility has Unarchived the TenFourFox download ( 7450-FPR16.1.app ) , an icon appears in Applications...so far, so good!

My challenge is to learn how to transfer this new material onto my Desktop!

I've put the ( original version of ) TenFourFox icon in my Dock, and I can open TenFourFox every time...easy!

What I seem unable to accomplish, is to transfer the current TenFourFox onto the Dock.

So: my simple challenge remains: once my new Download is unarchived, how do I proceed...step-by-step, to get it to the Dock?

( having said all this, it IS a bit embarrassing to admit that I cannot do this...you'd think that anyone who is able to strip down an iBook G4 and successfully install a SSD he cloned, could do THIS, yet, it escapes me...! OUCH! )

    Thanks again...I'm sure I'll learn this...eventually!!

    Sincerely, Michael.

Assuming the files are named the same, simply replacing the one in /Applications with the new one should be enough to update what's in your Dock. However, you should only do that after quitting the browser (don't do it with the browser running).

    Thanks again!

It may well be that all this was a Function of attempting the update with the Browser open...which is what I was doing!

    I'll try again later tonight.

I'm sure it will work...once I learn a bit more about Apple.

And: getting my Old G4 back on-line has been a lot of fun...and, it would not have happened without folks like you: THANKS.

    Sincerely, Michael.

Thanks once again, Cameron: I was able to install the current version last night...pretty easy, once one knows the Routine!

Say: I have checked the Box @ 'Automatic Updates' for TenFourFox...am I correct to assume that every time an Update's available, all I have to do is leave your program up and running long enough for the Update to be recognised & installed?

Sort of a silly question, yes, but I thought it a good idea to confirm...I'm getting used to Apple, but it's a rather slow process...

I plan to try your TenFourFoxBox, too...looks pretty neat.

Once again: THANKS....your kind attentions mean a lot to me, and contribute meaningfully to the Apple experience.

    Sincerely, Michael.

If you choose 'automatically' or 'check for updates', TenFourFox will check for updates and notify you (it doesn't matter which of the two you choose). You will need to download and install updates manually either way since we don't have the server infrastructure in place to do this for you.

    Hello Chris.

Thanks for your kind reply... I appreciate it.

I'm enjoying using my 12" iBook G4, and it's 14" counterpart, and TenFourFox is Absolutely Necessary for the process. I cloned the 12"'s 10.4.11 OS, and slipped it into two 64GB mSATA SSD's...one for each of them...although the SSD seems to speed things up a bit, without TenFourFox, they'd still be unable to 'see' the World of 2019...!

Say: is there a site where I might donate a few $$ to TenFourFox? Along with quite a few other folks nowadays, I'm not yet in the market for a nice Porsche 911 (!), but I do have a few, discretionary dollars each month, and I know where I'd like to direct several of them!

    Once again: THANKS!

    Sincerely, Michael.
