Did a fresh install of 10.5.8 on my G5 yesterday.
Installed FPR15 and sign in to sync gives :
No connection
You must be connected to the Internet to sign in.

I'm writing this message on the very same G5 and browser so internet access I have.

Even tried FPR14.1 and 13.1. Same results.

I can confirm this behavior. The sync server URLs at services.mozilla.com/ seem to have changed.

I think I have a solution, though since I don't use Sync personally I can't test it thoroughly. However, I do get the signon page and I am able to log in and the browser says I'm logged in, so it's probably working.

This problem is now being tracked as issue 569: https://github.com/classilla/tenfourfox/issues/569

With FPR16 Sync will become 'best effort' support, i.e., I'll do what I can within reason, but because Mozilla controls the backend, it may cease working without warning and there may be little I can do about it. Just a heads up.

Now part of FPR16, so closing (any reply you make will reopen this ticket).
