Facebook "like" causes lockup
If I hover over the "like" icon on a FB post, when the icon options window tries to open, the application locks up and I get the pinwheel of death. It does this every time with no exceptions. But if I click "like" fast enough that the options window does not open up, it registers the like and does not crash. So it is the launching of the options bubble that causes the crash. I tried fresh install of your app no change. G5 dual 1.8 OS10.5.8 TenFour 4.0

could this be related to the new animated emojis that FB has rolled
out? That corresponds roughly with the time this started happening.

Yes, that's probably what it's related to.

So far, it looks like dialing back to cairo will work nicely, after freezing one last (?) time :) —maybe we're always supposed to restart the browser after changing something in about:config? I was worried what "blank areas" in the likes popup meant, but it still functions, because if I hover it shows me the text for the missing icons, letting me choose a reaction other than "like." Thanks for the workaround.

Kathiallyson, yes, you must restart the browser when you switch betweeg CG and Cairo. It's not necessary for all about:config changes, though.

That could be very helpful for me to know in some future situation—thanks Chris.

i just wanted to say that not being able to use emojis was the issue
for me, but the big issue was you have to be super careful where you
put your curser because even if it just rolls near that launch area it
locks up the browser and that happens enough to make me get angry. So
it's more than just reduced features, it is a nuisance. Also, to those
of your developers who hate and diss on facebook and don't "ever use
it for anything" well that's all fine and good but there are lots of
artistic folks like myself who are chained to FB for our self
promotion and most of us use old equipment and you need to be a little
more respectful of your target user group.
Thanks :)

Please note that this is a help desk, not a discussion forum, and definitely not a place to spread insults. I have removed resp. comments and will delete any further comment that isn't concerned with the actual Facebook bug. You're wasting our resources with your private war.

This issue is now fixed in FPR6. This version will become live tomorrow, or you can download an advance copy from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/tenfourfox/files/fpr6/
If you used the Cairo fix detailed earlier in this thread, go to
about:config
, findgfx.canvas.azure.backends
and right-click and selectReset
before updating. As you will see in the release notes, although the browser does not crash, the actual Like icons themselves will not appear. There is no way to fix this currently without breaking other sites. The tooltips do appear if you hover, however, and they click and function normally.
If there is still an issue other than that one, please open a new ticket with a detailed description (don't reply to this or the ticket will reopen).
