Google Translate audio not working
Hi, i was translating things on google and when i wanted to hear the pronunciation i clicked on the audio button, but it only made me hear a bit of the sound and then nothing... It does not work as good as the previous tenfourfox versions did.

I can confirm that the audio is cut off after the first syllable in 38.6, but also in 38.5. Which previous version works for you?

Unfortunately i don't remember which version, but i am pretty sure that some time ago it was working...

I looked into it a bit closer. TFF 31 doesn't show the "listen" symbol at all (because: no mp3 support). And 38.x always plays ~one syllable if mp3 is enabled. I suspect the known problem with minimp3 where files don't play at all or only a short bit at the beginning.

So this is a known issue... Hope we will fix that in the future... Thanks Chris!

It's only what I suspect. It may be unrelated. The only way to find out for sure is to find an earlier TFF version that works and then compare what's changed. Or wait until the minimp3 bug is fixed (if this is possible) and then see if this also fixes the Google Translate problem.

Pasquale, to get it fixed will require one or both: the version in which the audio did work for you, and/or the actual audio files Google Translate generates so it can be tested off line. If this bug is a priority to you, that would help me, because to be candid I have a number of higher priority issues to work on including getting 45 to work at all. If you're unable to, I'll eventually get around to fixing this, but it isn't high on my worklist.

Cameron, after testing almost every previous version, i found it. The good news are that in this version google translate audio works. The bad ones are that the version is very old. The latest one i found to work is Tenfourfox 5. It works on also TFF 4, but the latest is 5, all the next versions do not work with this thing, as Chris said, after TFF 5 it does not even show the speaker icon.

TFF 5 uses Flash for this funcionality. This works up to TFF 17 (if you activate plugins), but it doesn't help us here because Flash isn't an option anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that... anyway the fact that we can partially hear sounds is a big step... Thanks for your work!

Noticed it only now: the awesome news is that now Google Translate audio works on my Tenfourfox 45.6 installation. Thank you Cameron! :)

Sorry, I should have posted that in this ticket. Yes, Google Translate got fixed by a rewrite of the TenFourFox
minimp3
MP3 streaming backend in 45.5-ish which uses the media framework available in later versions of Firefox. There is still an issue where the audio occasionally sounds slower or distorted, but this happens in the regular Firefox, so it's something on Google's end most likely.Glad it's working. I'll close this. No reply needed (open a new ticket if there's a new problem).
