Hi Chris,

The banners are gone thanks to 52ESR but QT enabler won't play YT videos any more since Release 14. YT totally useless now.

Isn't there a video downloader available that still works? I still have Easiest YouTube Video Downloader in my Extensions but that one stopped working a long time ago.

Thanks, Jörg.

The QT enabler isn't my area of expertise, but I can say that there are lots of YT downloaders that work great, but they're all web-based, such as

    https://y2mate.com/
    https://www.downvids.net/

Download add-ons must be updated constantly to keep working on the ever-changing YouTube website. Most or all of the classic (non WebExtensions based) add-ons will have stopped working on YT by now.

Also I can say that YouTube is usable in the browser itself, but you need a fast Mac.

PS Jörg, if you post answers in existing threads please stay on-topic, or create a new thread for your specific problem.

Tested QT enabler. Can confirm the problem. YT must have changed something in their URL structure in a way that QuickTime can't use it anymore. Error "The file is not a movie file."

Doesn't work in TFF 13, either, so the problem has nothing to do with the FPR 14 update.

So can I go back to the earlier Ten4Fox version until you fixed this? YT is
banning a lot of stuff I like but still use it a lot. Thanks.

Does it work for you in earlier TFF versions?

Yep, it worked well until the last update.

Actually I used the MP4 extension and chose the miniplayer. Enough for me.
Worked like a charm. But after the latest upgrade nothing works anymore on
    YT.

The question was not "did it work" but "does it work". As in "today", if you re-install TFF 13. Because I don't believe our TFF 14 update is the cause of the problem.

I agree with Chris. YouTube support in QTE has always been messy and prone to glitches, and I suspect that something has changed in the API on the other end that it uses. The other possibility is they may be enforcing TLS 1.2, which TenFourFox supports but QuickTime doesn't, and QTE uses QT natively for network transport.

Thanks a lot Chris. DownVid works like a charm.

Chris pointed me to a downloading app, downvid that worked OK but suddenly
it has stopped working and instead of downloading a selected mp4 it gives
me a page of random other videos. I installed the new release of TFF and
now there is no more navigation bar on the YT page. Can't watch any YT
videos anymore. Not an improvement. Thanks anyway.

    There are alternatives like
    https://www.dredown.com/youtube
    https://y2mate.com/
    https://en.savefrom.net/

Youtube keeps changing its backend and the download sites must keep up, some are better at it than others.

Youtube also has changed their frontend layout a bit; I now get two navigation bars (one on top, one to the left) but this may vary with screen size, maybe also by country. It certainly has nothing to do with the TFF update.

Thanks Chris, found one already that works. Still miss the right nav bar in
the YT subscriptions so went back to the last release, # 14.
