This comment was split from the discussion: How do I update TenForuFox? (Full install or Update?)

You can close this ticket.
But I want to inform you, that I have encountered several othern problems.

1. go to https://www.everymac.com/upgrade_cards/by_processor/powerpc7400.html the site is displayed wrong. FF 3.6.28 and Safari display them right. If you just go to everymac.com in TFF, you get the same, right, displaying of the site. I don't know, why the "upgrades"-site is different.
2. everytime I regroup the search-list. Amazon and bing will be at the top again, although I put google up.
3. I can add the german wikipedia to the search-menu-list, but not the german ebay site (which was possible in FF3.6.28).
4. go to sport1.de and select a video from the tiny preview pictures. A black bar will appear with an x at the left hand. In Safari and FF3.6.28 it will show a video-screen, too. But not in TFF. (Javascript enabled). I am not sure, if that can be resolved by adding Mactubes or quicktime enabler.
5. all videos on ARD.de will take like hours to show the preview window. FF and Safari load the preview immediately.

    1. loads correctly in TFF 17, but not in 24. CSS problem? I'll investigate.
2., 3. I've never used this and can't say anything about it.
    4. If you mean this: http://mediencenter.sport1.de, it uses Flash. There doesn't seem to be an html5 alternative, and it's not QTE friendly.
    5. Previews on ARD-Mediathek load quickly for me. Video can't be played because we don't have h.264 (yet) for the html5 alternative.

    1. http://www.everymac.com/upgrade_cards/by_processor/powerpc7400.html is displayed correctly. (HTTP)
      https://www.everymac.com/upgrade_cards/by_processor/powerpc7400.html isn't. (HTTPS)

I would almost guess it's a site problem, viz. that some CSS doesn't match and is rejected for security reasons (?) by newer versions of TFF. The linked style sheet in the source goes to http…, not https. If I use the Web Inspector and change the CSS's url it to https, the site is displayed normally.

    Hi,

just some clarification about my points 2 + 3:

    2. everytime I regroup the search-list. Amazon and bing will be at the top again, although I put google up.
    3. I can add the german wikipedia to the search-menu-list, but not the german ebay site (which was possible in FF3.6.28).

    What I mean:

When you open TFF, look at the top, wave your head to the right corner.
There is the arrow that looks downwards.
Left to it, there is the "search field". Where one can type a certain word and hit enter.
This search field has a little triangle at the left. If one clicks on that triangle, you get a drop-down menue. A list of preinstalled american search engines, to choose from.
The preinstalled ones are: Amazon.com, Bing, Twitter, Yahoo, en.wikipedia.org

Now forget about all that. When you now go to the adressfield and type de.wikipedia.org and hit enter. The site wikipedia in German will be displayed.
Now turn your eyes back to the tiny triangle of the search field. Click on that. In the drop down menue you will see an option that says "add current page to search list" or something similar.

That worked for ebay.de before. But with this version I can not add ebay.de to this list. Even, if I first delete ebay.com

Sorry, if this got a bit long winded.
    Mathias.

Okay, I tested it and it doesn't matter which localization you use – once the browser is restarted the search engines are sorted alphabetically. Engines manually added are also put in alphabetical order with the next restart. Originally (with a new profile) they're sorted with Google on top, but as soon as you drag them into a new order or add a search engine, they're sorted alphabetically at next restart.

This is clearly a bug, but I don't think it's ours. The same goes for which search engines can be added. XX.wikipedia.org can be added, ebay.XX can't. TenFourFox should behave like Firefox in this respect. (I can't test it with an Intel Mac right now, though, so I may be wrong in this assumption).

You can file a bug report at bugzilla.org, but seeing how many old and unresolved search engine related bugs there are already (and Australis probably changing all of it) I doubt you'll see any improvement.

There is one last idea, I had:

I don't know, if it is possible anyhow, but, it would be a nice feature, if one could have two seperate profiles, so that FF and TFF could coexist on the same Mac and be used as needed. Maybe that Add-ons are copied and TFF has its own folder of Add-ons and preferences that it accesses and FF3.6.28 has its own, too.
So, if I encounter problems with TFF, I could start FF without it reinitializing the Add-ons and preferences I have set to TFF.

One could be asked at first start of TFF "shall TFF copy all preferences and use all Add-Ons from your previous FF3.6.28 install? Or Shall it make a duplicate?").

Thank you for your good work!

The functionality to use separate profiles is already in Firefox/TenFourFox, but there are some issues with the Profile Manager, as described here:

    https://tenfourfox.tenderapp.com/discussions/problems/529-unable-to....

Right now it's advisable to decide for Firefox or TenFourFox. E.g. use TFF and Camino/Opera (one has the most recent layout engine, the other can use plugins) for a two-browser strategy.

I have another problem for you. Sorry, that I do not start a thread in the support forum.

TFF 24.3 does not display Ebay correctly. The Telephone Icon with "kundensupport" should be at the very top, right, next to "Hilfe". Also the article titles are shown that wrong vertical way. See picture.

    What did I do:
    1. enter "Power Mac" and hit enter
    2. see search results and choose "Auktionen"
    3. auction previews are not displayed correctly

    Thanks.

Looks fine here. Are you sure one of your extensions isn't interfering?

Also, your screen width is considerably smaller than my 1080p monitor, and your font size seems set larger. eBay's layout is not likely to cope with changing those beyond a certain point. My G5 uses the default settings.

The Ebay layout does work with a 1024p viewport, but it's obviously optimized for 1080 or wider. The scrollbar only vanishes at 1140p width.

If you want to use such a large font size with a small browser window, set the zoom to "text only" so the layout isn't disturbed too much by inflated images: View Menu>Zoom>Zoom Text Only (Ansicht>Zoom>Nur Text zoomen). This way the horizontal text will be displayed correctly.

If you want to display the original font size intended by the website, go to View Menu>Zoom and click "Reset" (Ansicht>Zoom>Normal).

Chris helped me in the meantime. I don't know what went wrong before. I resetted "View->Zoom-options" and now it works.
It's a 12" ibook display at 1024x768, I did not choose anything on the font size, so I don't know about that.

Well, now it is solved. Thanks!

Okay, I tested it and it doesn't matter which localization you use – once the browser is restarted the search engines are sorted alphabetically. Engines manually added are also put in alphabetical order with the next restart. Originally (with a new profile) they're sorted with Google on top, but as soon as you drag them into a new order or add a serach engine, they're sorted alphabetically at next restart.

It's clearly a bug, but I don't think it's ours.

Do you use TenFourFox in English or German (i.e. did you install the German langpack)?
