Removing TenFourFox branding
Hi, I am a student at a high school with around 4,000 students. I work with the IT department as well, and we have been using Firefox 3.6.28 on the thousands of iBooks we have at the school.
What I would like to know is can I "rebrand" TenFourFox to act more like Firefox? We want to at least try to use HTML5-enabled things like Google Drive, so TenFourFox is the best option currently. I want it to essentially be identical to the Intel version of Firefox. I can't exactly explain to 4,000 people that TenFourFox is the way you get on the internet.
Thanks,
Jonathan Alfonso

Part of the reason we rebrand Firefox is because, with our modifications, we aren't allowed to call it Firefox (Iceweasel exists for the same reason). While Firefox is open source, the trademark is controlled by Mozilla. You should keep that in mind if you choose to deploy such a modified version as widely as you state. Also, while I can't force you to do it, we'd still like credit for the work we do in keeping a Firefox port on Power Macs viable.
You could probably modify the application resources to rename it (you'd have to rename, at minimum, the app and the .plist). However, you'd have to do that on every update, and it will only cover the app name, not any of the other internals that reference TenFourFox. If that isn't sufficient for you, you'd need to do a source rebuild using only the pieces of the changesets that don't change the name and UI. This is not difficult, but it will be somewhat tedious since I don't really organize them out and it would be a lot of work for me to do with no gain to the project. If you do this, I would certainly consider adopting the reorganized changesets for a future version, but this isn't something I'd do myself.
Hopefully that gives you an idea where to start; ask if any part of this isn't clear.

Cameron, I'll see about that. I appreciate the work you've done and I do not wish to change what must not be changed. I only want to remove the home page, icon, and custom naming. I want to leave the "about" dialog the same though.

The home page is a pref in about:config. You probably also need to change brand.shortName if you intend to remove all trace of the name TenFourFox or it will pop up in dialogue boxes and other localized sections.

Thanks, Cameron. Should be easy to set with CCK Wizard.

Aha. Yes, that should work. Let me know if it doesn't; I'll be interested to hear.
