'new tab' window by default?
With version 24.2 comes a change in the primary window and appears to affect all windows by seeking to make Tabs the default. Even the top edge of the first open TenFourFox window has the words 'new tab' and subsequent effort to use separate windows when clicking on anything in the first open window gains an increase in the population of Tabs in the first one. The only way I can guaranty to not get Tabs (no matter the setting in preferences, etc) is to use the button in the first window to open another window, or go to the menu bar and do the same thing. However this does not help open the first sought content of the original window in a second separate window.
I use windowed browsing because I may choose to move items between browsers or windows, and the desktop. And I don't like to have to sort through a pile if Tabs to see whatever may be hiding there; and can lose content that I may need to save, that way. So until this is resolved, I've gone back to last version of TenFourFox 17. -- Also had an issue with SeamonkeyPPC where their latest upgrade makes the fans and CPU run like crazy, at near 100% with only one browser window & no other apps open; reverted there, to an earlier version and the issues in each go away.
Thank you for the effort and advances in regard to these projects.
Best regards from Alaska.

Kevin, although I empathize, we generally mirror user interface changes in the browser that Mozilla makes or add-ons start having problems. For Firefox 23, Mozilla removed the ability to auto-hide the tab bar (see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=855370 ), and obviously you aren't the only one who dislikes this change. However, this change is a prerequisite for Australis and its dependencies, and we can't make it to Firefox 31 without Australis; additionally, reverting this change requires moderate surgery on TenFourFox that can't be carried forward anyway. It's not practical to do. Sorry.
I don't know what to tell you about SeaMonkeyPPC; I don't maintain that project.

I should also say: there is an add-on that will apparently revert this, but I can't vouch for it. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-tab-bar-with-on...

I'd also prefer to browse w/o the wasted space & clutter of tabs.
I will try the above mentioned add-on, thanks for mentioning it.

I just installed the add-on mentioned above. It seems to work fine. Thanks.
