Not sure how to install an AdBlocker

Hi - Kind of a "first time user" as I've just gotten by 1.67GHz PowerBook down from the attic after a long hiatus :) This is therefore a newbie question - I apologise in advance :)

I've just installed PR3, but when I tried to install AdBlock Plus (the latest build, adblock_plus-2.9.1-an+fx+sm+tb.xpi), I'm getting the message "Adblock Plus is incompatible with TenFourFox 45.12.0". I don't have to run Adblock Plus - just wanting an adblocker that works well working under Adblock Plus.

Any suggestions would be welcome :)

Thank you, Patrick

Congrats to your new top-of-the-line PowerBook :-)

    Go to
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

Then scroll down to the Version Information, click "see complete version history" and install an earlier version of the add-on, e.g. v2.8.2.

Or you could pretend to be on Firefox 52 (Preferences>TenFourFox>User Agent) and see if it installs (may not work).

BTW I use uBlock, it's considerably more light-weight than Adblock Plus, but not as easy to use.

In October 2017, Chris mentioned adblockPlus v2.8.2
Is this still the best version for the current TFF release FPR6 (SPR 1) ?

Chris also mentioned uBlock; Do you know which version?

AdblockPlus Version 2.8.2 is the last (therefore likely best) version compatible with TenFourFox. I strongly recommend uBlock Origin over Adblock Plus, though, as it's a lot faster. Version 1.13.8 is the final version compatible with TenFourfox:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/versions/?page=1#version-1.13.8

Note that the upcoming version of TenFourFox will have a basic adblocker built-in so you may not even need an additional add-on for blocking ads, even though you can still use one.

    Chris,

I installed the uBlock Origin 1.13.8 and all is well.
Tons of thanks for specifying the right version.

    Hey Chris,

just searched for a suitable ad-blocker for TFF FPR11 - very hard to find! Even the above mentioned uBlock 1.13.8 seems to be gone... any ideas where to get it?

    Thanks!
    Andreas

Mozilla is in the process of removing all old versions of add-ons from its servers (or the links leading to them).

You can download uBlock Origin from the developer's repository:
    https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases?after=1.16.16
The last version that works with TFF is "firefox-legacy-1.16.4.4"

We also have an archive for compatible add-ons (not quite up-to-date right now):
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/tenfourfox/files/addons/archive/

Oh, okay, so it's already a some versions later after 1.3.8, which is compatible with TFF FPR11! Nice!
    Thanks a lot!
