I use a
Power Mac G5 Dual Core 2.3GHz 1GB RAM (December 2005) with 10.4.11.
I think I know what to do but have two questions. I noticed that in
the FAQs, it explains to make sure to use sites that have padlock
logo or the https to show that everything is secure. However, when
I hover my mouse over the link to download the 38.x app, it shows
that the file comes from the non-secure http sourceforge site. I
know there is a secure version of site cause that comes up in
Google search result. I am wary to use sites like sourceforge cause
of malware concerns. Is it actually safe to use the link as posted
on the main page at the floodgap site that has info of
TenFourFox?

Also, do I really have to do the steps, such as from 3.6 to
10-4F v10 and so on? Or can I just go right on to the current 10-4F
v38? I already backed up my Bookmarks and wouldn't mind setting up
fresh profile by deleting original Firefox profile from the library
as said in the steps on the main page. The reason why I asked that
cause I did go the sourceforge page (again non-secure version of
site) with the list of previous versions for me to start the steps.
However, there are no links to start with 10 and 17 and so on due
to the page's comment about something like 'removed due to
vulnerability reasons'. Something like that. So where exactly can I
start the process to go from 3.6 to 10 to 17, etc? I know I am way
too late on this since I should have done this long time ago. Been
using FF 3.6 for years now and had enough of the limitations. I
have already disabled all plug-ins for security purposes anyway but
still know it's time to upgrade to TenFourFox. Can I just clear out
my Firefox from Application Support portion of the library and just
go right at downloading the newest edition (38) of TenFourFox? I
already backed up my bookmarks and actually wouldn't mind setting
up the preferences, options, and all that all over again. The only
extension I had was the NoScript so will just re add that upon
completion of transfer. Anyone can help me with this? I just want
to know if the link to the download zip on the floodgap site is
safe even though it has the non-secure http sourceforge link on it
instead of secure https. As well as the steps to doing it in terms
of 3.6 to 10 to 17 or just clean profile and then do 38.
Thanks!

Tommytag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/399165902016-05-19T21:38:29Z2016-05-19T21:39:19ZAre the links to newest TenFourFox app safe from the main page?

Hello Tommy, if you only want to carry over your bookmarks and
have them backed up/exported as .html, you can delete your old
Firefox profile, or just rename ist to "Firefox-old". Then install
Tenfurfox 38, re-import your bookmarks and remove Firefox 3.6 from
your Applications folder. Don't start FF again once you've started
using TFF, it may damage your profile.

You can safely use the Sourceforge download. I don't know why
the link shown on Floodgap is http, but the real download site is
https once you click on the link. There is no malware, extra
software or anything else besides the TFF app in the downloaded zip
file.

Chris (chtrusch)
