What you need to know about Mac Pro
I have been thinking of "upgrading" from my G5 mac to a Mac Pro, but I am lacking the information required to make a good choice.
Mac computers outlast their software support by a decade or more in many cases. This is the reason that Tenfour fox has brought all of us here. The G5 is not doing all that well with the new HTML5. The scripts are slow and my system crashes many times I think due to buggy scripts. This is the reason I am gathering information now.
The Mac Pro has been in service for many years now and I will be choosing one with a build date after 2010. This much I know.
I have noticed that the Mac Pro has many variant construction platforms; dual core, 12 core quad core and so on.
If History tells us anything it is that only one platform will be supported into the future for the longest time before it is dropped.
My question is what would be the Mac I should be looking for, witch platform will be supported in the future and then critically will a browser be offered like tenfour fox at that time?

It's going to be very difficult to predict. My reason for working on TenFourFox is simply because I wanted to keep using my G5 as my usual computer. I don't have any personal interest myself in doing the same for Intel Macs, though some people do have that interest, and have contributed (unsupported) builds. It would depend on there being someone out there with the interest and acumen.

Hi Cameron,
maybe what I should be asking is ; Is the MacPro superior to my G5 or is it just a simulation of the G5 in the microsoft architecture?
Are the newer computers faster? Are they better? I know this mac inside and out and repair it when need be.
The truth is it only crashes when using a google product.
It always crashes on youtube when you try to access a video that they do not want you to see.
The first time this happened was when I tried to open a video titled "they do not want you to see this"
Other than that this mac works well using tenfourfox.
Thank you

This is going to be a bigger topic than TenFourFox. I think the best thing to say is that the Mac Pro is newer, uses more current technology and supports more recent versions of the operating system. However, Apple is moving away from Intel, and history also shows that Apple tends to drop support for older technology quickly. There are enough Intel Macs out there that it is likely someone will offer some level of support, but we've been offering TenFourFox for almost 10 years now and that is a very long time. I don't advise you make a purchase decision based on what level of free software support will persist because it's an expensive way to be wrong.
With respect to the crashes, if you have a specific site that crashes consistently, we can look at it. If it's intermittent, however, there may not be much I can do to fix it (other things like memory -- remember that TenFourFox is a 32-bit application -- or interfering add-ons or system extensions, etc. can be responsible in those cases too).

Cameron
according to the bus speed specks the mac pro is only 30% faster than the G5.
that is if I am reading it right.
I was expecting more improvement in twenty years.
I think that I will keep my G5 for a while and enjoy my TenFourFox for the wonderful gift that it is.
Thank you for your support.

I just got the bad news.
I always enjoyed using tenfourfox.
It is nice using my 2000 mac g5 and I am a little depressed that it will not be wooring beside me as I search the interweb.
I will now have to get a new piece of hardware.
I do hate this thought.
Thank you for all your hard work and time for all these years.
I use it for ebay and Brighteon. also get vids off of the duck duck go sight.
I guess that tenfour fox will still work for some time.
gradually though sights will drop support for tenfourfox.
Till then I will be using Tenfourfox.
Thank you again for all you have given me and the rest of the PPC group.
Your input will be missed by us all I am sure.
sincerely,
galen jack
