CHUD/Shark for performance tuning?
How are you guys deciding how to tweak these PPC builds? I was reading about CHUD and Shark and it looked like a good way to profile the code to see where it's spending the most time. I was curious, so I installed CHUD 4.6.2 but when I try to use Shark I get an error:
CHUD trace facility currently owned by another process: "PID #-1" (PID -1). [CHUDDataSource]
Anyway, I appreciate all the effort you guys are putting into this project for us all!

I can't speak for Tobias, but I do use Shark. I haven't gotten an error like that before, though.
However, we also pay a lot of attention to various benchmarks, not necessarily because of their validity (some are, some are less so), but because they are widely reported and the most common way people will assess the browser's performance.

Downloaded TenFourFox 7400 on my MAC Sawtooth OSX 10.4.6, I like how fast it is and the pop-ups are gone but but but why is the dialog showing up on some email as
Reply to this discussion as boxes with 00 and below a number. Pretty sure this is binary data but how can I fix it so I can see the words. I already changed the option to using HTML.
Interesting when I copy and paste into a doc the words are translated from the boxes.
Thanks to you genius people who know.

Mollie, that is problem 2. Please follow up in that issue. That isn't related to this.

I've been seeing 17.0.2 stall from time to time on a 1.5GHz G4 powerbook running 10.4.11. The shark trace is below. Any thoughts? This machine has 1.25GB of ram and activity monitor is showing several hundred MB free. If I give it a minute or two it works fine again.

It's clearly a VM thrash, but I'd need STRs to investigate further, including a URL that regularly triggers it.
Right now most of my Shark dives are for issue 193.

Maybe this is just a mozilla thing. It seems to happen after the browser has been running for a few days. google maps or radar images from weather.com really show it, but after a while every page gets really slow. If I quit, then "restore previous session" from the history menu it's fixed. I don't get why it would be grinding through VM with 300MB free and 400MB inactive according to activity monitor.
What are STRs? Is there anything I can do to help with 193?

STRs = Steps To Reproduce
Unfortunately, the description you gave is not sufficient to reproduce for me. A tool like MenuMeters will give you a better idea of how much swap is being used.
The Shark trace you gave does not appear to be the specific issue we're investigating in issue 193.
