TFF PPC Mac versions will not load small button icons or check-boxes - gives small rectangle instead

This problem shows up on many, but not all websites. Am using TFF 38.10.0 on a Power PC Mac G4 10.4.11 - also TFF 31.8 also shows the problem on similar PPC Mac. An old work-horse, yes, but I'd like to continue using it. The problem is seen in the attached image, where small rectangles with appear instead of images. They have an alphanumeric E9 or F1 or similar in the top half, and another number in the bottom half. I use add-ons Ghostery 5.4.10, self-destructing cookies 0.4.9, adblocker ultimate 2.26 - but whitelisting a site doesn't help. Deactivating them and restarting TFF doesn't help.

This URL shows it, in the lower left https://myaccount.lightningsource.com/ shows it.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

This is what I see on FPR4.

The boxes you're seeing are because of a character that the browser can't find in any available font (either on your computer or provided by the website). When that happens, the browser generates a placeholder, which looks like your screenshot.

The icon font on the URL you provided is called FontAwesome and is a WOFF2 font provided by the website. TenFourFox 38 does not understand this type of font properly. Unfortunately, you don't have much alternative other than to upgrade to the current version, which should fix your problem (FPR4's font support is current with the latest version of Firefox, including all fixes as of Firefox 57), and it should run just fine on your present computer.

    Dear Cameron,

Thanks very much. I upgraded as advised, and
everything works fine. All the little boxes now
show appropriate icons, etc. My G4 DMD tower
PowerPC works marvelously. If only someone would
come up with a solution to viewing html5 videos,
I could give the Intel machines a raspberry!
    Much appreciated,
    James

FPR4 has some improvements for video buffering, but FPR5 will have a lot more AltiVec acceleration, largely for VP9 WebM. That should be coming out in January.

Since this appears to be working, I'll close this ticket, but if you have a related problem, any reply you make will automatically reopen it. If you have a new issue that is not related, please open a new ticket instead.
