Cannot permanently change primary search engine in 45.8.0. Why not?

I am running 45.8.0 (7450) on a PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz 1 GB RAM. I entered Preference Window-search engines to change from Yahoo! as primary to Bing. TenFourFox reverts to Yahoo! after each search. Deleting Yahoo! from list of search engines makes no difference.

What am I not doing that renders Bing as primary search engine?
