It's pretty<br>
usable there. The thing is: You need enough RAM (512 MB is the
bare<br>
minimum), and this is even more vital if the HD and the processor
are slow.<br>
I'd say 1 GB or more is recommended. Also, you need to wait a
minute after<br>
the browser is started (look at the processor time in Activity
Monitor)<br>
because it takes a while to load completely in the background and
will only<br>
then be usable at full speed. In the realm of Clamshell iBooks
(300/466 MHz<br>
max.) 'full speed' still won't be very impressive, though.</p></div>Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/418947632017-02-07T05:39:19Z2017-02-07T05:39:20ZG3 + TFF - speed and ram problems<div><p>Hey Chris</p>
<p>thanks for your fast reply.<br>
The iBook is very limited and i have only 544MB RAM.<br>
I checked some speed up instructions I found on the web but TFF
won't become really useable.<br>
I turned of some things.</p>
<p>Are there any other optimizations which can be preset in the
G3-Version?<br>
Is it possible (don't know how) to set the TFF to only surf mobile
websites like Classilla without an add on?</p>
<p>Regards<br>
Christoph</p>

<p>Chris is right, though: 544MB is not nearly enough to run the
browser well, unfortunately. The JavaScript compiler needs a lot of
memory to work effectively.</p></div>Cameron Kaisertag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/418947632017-02-07T19:55:56Z2017-02-07T19:55:57ZG3 + TFF - speed and ram problems<div><p>Hello</p>
<p>But that means not that TFF with mobile user agent is faster
than today?</p>
<p>I really would like to find a solution to surf with that old
machine.</p>

to compensate for G3s in the 400 MHz range when trying to browse
websites like Facebook that keep adding more JavaScript nonsense on
a daily basis.</p>
<p>The biggest problem with clamshell iBooks is RAM. Since you
can't add more on these beautiful machines, you're out of luck
here. The situation can, however, be mitigated:</p>
<p>Disable JavaScript (using the NoScript or - better - YesScript
add-on) on all sites that don't absolutely need it, this helps a
lot. Use a lightweight adblocker like uBlock to get rid of
non-essential parts of the website. Try mobile sites as often as
you can. Close all other apps when using the browser to make as
much RAM available as possible. Open one window only with two or
three tabs maximum. And most importantly: Be patient and keep in
mind that this computer is 16-17 years old.</p></div>Chris (chtrusch)
