HELP! 38.50 is clashing w gmail
HELP! 38.50 is clashing w gmail. I have no scroll bars, and clicking on an email to open it doesn't work... just get the spinning color-wheel, endlessly. Command-period, or escape, or command-escape, when pressed down for 5-10 minutes get me a cursor-arrow, but as soon as I select an email, it reverts to to the spinning wheel.
All the other browser windows, including earthlink webmail, are working perfectly.
BTW, I'm running Tiger 10.4.11, on a 700-mHz G4 ppc imac....
I tried to set up a compatible Thunderbird email client, but all my password attempts failed. Which is odd, bcs I save them on my computer, and also keep a reference book for internet logins. Soon after that, I got an email warning me that someone had tried to access my gmail using an insecure (ie: compatible w ppc imacs) browser and gmail was proud to report that it had stopped that from happening.
Next, I'll try to use the old Mac "Mail" email client, but suspect that will also be "prevented".
I tried to revert to TenFourFox 38.4, but now the problem persists with gmail no matter which version I try... plus, of course, I get the warning that my browser is out of date!
Has anyone else experienced this problem w gmail?
Thanks for your help. I'm tearing my hair out on this one.

The problem isn't the browser. Gmail constantly changes internally and it just seems to have changed around the time you upgraded.
I personally use Gmail nearly daily on a 1GHz iMac G4. This is somewhat faster than your machine, but not exceptionally so. It's not super fast, but I can't replicate anything at all similar to what you're describing.
I replied to your specific request in the other thread.

Thank you, Cameron, for this reply as well as the link on the other thread re disabling google hangouts.
Is there an email client that is compatible with Tiger-PPC-G4 imacs which is also up to date on 'security issues'?
Right now, the only way I can access gmail at all is by using the 'legacy' html gmail version. It's okay, but lacks some tools that I miss. Plus, it's very slow and hangs often. But that's my only option, at least for now.
It's a sad day, when earthlink webmail is faster than gmail!
Thanks for your help.

You can try Tenfourbird. This is an updated version of Thunderbird for Power Macs. Please note that this is not maintained by us, although they use some of the same source code, so while I use it personally myself I can't offer you official support for it here. The maintainer has his own help forum if you have questions. You can download it here: http://tenfourbird.osdn.jp/
The other thing I would make sure of is that your Mac has sufficient memory. Your iMac can take up to 1GB of memory and I would strongly advise maxing it out because it will make a lot of things faster on that machine, not just TenFourFox. 512MB on a machine of that speed will be miserable and is the bare minimum we support. If you have even less than that, that is almost certainly why your machine performs so badly.
