mouseover highlight in multi-stage context menu "bleeds through"

So far I've only noticed this in a particular portion of the menu structure of the Lastpass add-on, and only since the last release of Tenfourfox. This by itself is a minor problem, but there are also weird UI things (possibly) happening in Tenfourbird + Enigmail which can be disastrous for users of encrypted email. Please see https://sourceforge.jp/ticket/browse.php?group_id=7035&tid=33460 in the unlikely event these are related.

In the video, I open up Lastpass, pan to my cat while searching for some dummy menu items (to protect my privacy while searching for 'b' in a thumbnail size video, of course), pan back, and show menu "bleed through." This is only the highlighting, clicks do not appear to bleed through - I click edit, it opens edit.

Is this something the application itself can cause to happen? I'm a developer who's never touched a shred of browser or add-on code, but those menus seem OS X generated. If so, is it possible a UI bug here has also made it into Tenfourbird, where I have a hunch that UI bugs are responsible for a serious problem I found in Enigmail, at the URL above? If so, this ticket may be higher priority than it looks.

I don't use Tenfourbird and Enigmail, or Lastpass, so I can't really help you debug this. I haven't experienced this issue in anything else.

Yep, I'm just planting a flag in your ticket system in case they're related - and to ask if you've had any menu UI problems like disappearing checkboxes - in the unlikely case that these two odd behaviors are related.

I can ping this ticket if the Tenfourbird author thinks it's upstream. He claims to use a lot of your code (don't know which).

I haven't had any issues with disappearing checkboxes either, but I'm on 10.4, not 10.5. Perhaps Chris uses these.

As a general rule, with regard to Lastpass, we try to ensure extension compatibility but this is best-effort and I generally don't do debugging on specific extensions unless I can observe the bug in the core browser or through other means. Nothing personal; this is so I don't go crazy or whack my profile, unless you have a patch in hand.

I don't use TenFourBird or LastPass either. I installed LastPass in a fresh FF user profile for testing but didn't get too far because I don't have an account there. Sorry.

I've never seen checkboxes disappear in TenFourFox. The only UI bug I see regularly (but which seems to be harmless and appears both in 10.4 and 10.5) is the discoloration of checkboxes in some sheets. They get blue only when you hover over them with the mouse (screenshot: Preferences>Privacy>Use custom settings…>Clear history…>Settings…).

Thanks for even looking into it - y'all are doing great work with TenFourFox. I'll come back and update this ticket if there's a reason to do so based on debugging from the Tenfourbird author. I don't know what TenFourFox code he uses, but figured I'd raise a flag since I saw menu bugs pop up in both since 24.3.0.

Thanks again for the hard work. :)
