Smoothness of HTML5 media playback (video and audio) depends on your Mac. A high-end G4 (>1 GHz) or G5 is recommended. It also depends on how many tabs are open at the same time and what's going on in them. Plus other applications running at the same time using up processor cycles.

Chris,I've got a non intel G-5 running leopard 8.6.5 I did not have but one window open. Perhaps it is this browser Fox5 for us non intel users?
I do not experience this problem with Safari with YouTube but Safari doesn't allow me to work with my yahoo mail and there are no upgrades or revisions for non-intel mac.

Hm, should be no problem on a G5.
Can you give me a Youtube link where the audio skips on your Mac? (Not all Youtube videos are encoded in the same way.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEI4qSrkPAs&spfreload=10I can't feel my face by The Weekend
The commercial at the beginning. The song itself skips intermittently throughout. This happens on almost all music videos
Thanks Chris.

Plays ok on my G4 1.3 GHz with video mostly fluent (some stuttering) and audio perfectly fluent. I don't see an ad at the beginning.
All I can say is that your G5 should have no hard time playing this. *If* you ge the same codec/resolution as I do. What Youtube serves me is (right-clik>statistics for nerds):
Video ID: KEI4qSrkPAs
Dimensions: 640 x 360
…
Mime Type: video/webm; codecs="vp8.0, vorbis"

I'm left wondering what to do. Contact Time Warner? Again, this is something that is happening with the G5 Firefox browser and not Safari.
Video to audio sync off by mili-seconds and sometimes by seconds, audio drop out, skips.
I'm not a nerd...I have a brain
Any other suggestions you can make that I need to check?
appreciate it.
thanks,
marc

Check Activity Monitor while you're playing a Youtube video. Is TenFourFox really the only process that has a high processor load at this time?

Chris,This is still not a solution...your comments of what is needed (g4,g5). I have G5 2.3 version 10.5.8 memory 12 GB Ram. I can listen to Youtube audio on Safari (no longer supported) and TenFourFox is giving me skipping of audio and it is not slight, it is pronounced and noticeable.
What do I need to inspect? This problem happens when I only have one window up. I'm at a loss. Its not the end of the world here but what if I want education instruction on YouTube for something else?
Recommend a tech that can perform a remote inspection of this or I'm afraid I'll have to resort to replacing this non-intel G5 (which has been working perfectly otherwise except for being left behind as technology advances) with an Intel Mac Pro.
Advice or please advise a colleague that is a part of this effort to offer support for older Macs.
Also, I'm with Time Warner cable here in Los Angeles....though, I don't believe that is the problem.
thanks,
Marc

As I said: My advice is to use Activity Monitor to find out what other processes are running that comsume a lot of CPU power. Start a Youtube video and then open Activity Monitor (you can search for it in Spotlight). Then sort the columns for CPU highest to lowest. You'll get a window similar to my screenshot. If there's nothing noteworthy going on at the same time consuming CPU, I have to say that I cannot help you.

I don't have a suggestion for you either. I use a Quad G5 and while there's a bit of jitter at the beginning waiting for it to buffer, it's fine after that, even in Reduced mode.
You could try using SandboxSafari for those sites that require it, but please note that it is a hack, and we don't offer any technical support for it. You can try it here -- read the documentation thoroughly. http://www.floodgap.com/software/sandboxsafari/

I discovered upon viewing a news story on yahoo that my entire audio to video was completely out of sync. This is not just a youtube issue with audio skipping.
I have a dual G5.
Is anybody with Ten Four Fox G5 experiencing this also?

This comment was split into a new discussion: Gmail Cookies
Chris,
I've got TenFourFox open and I believe upon getting into my settings that I've enabled cookies.
When I attempt to get into a Gmail account I've created, I get the oops cookies not enabled message.
Any insight on how to fix that?
THanks,
Marc
