for browser identity.

You can see download progress in the new downloads arrow button;
click on it to show an overlay window with more detailed progress.
You'll get more info (like download speed) in the library ("Show
All Downloads").

Please note that we didn't program any of this, it's Mozilla's
decision.

Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-13T20:39:40Z2013-12-13T20:39:41Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

Ah. I had removed the download arrow from the toolbar because it
reduced the width of the search box and location line. Wish I could
open a d/l progress window from a menu as before. This version
expects you to put a lot of "stuff" in the chrome.

I shall try the user agent switcher you recommended. Maybe I can
shut up the bank for once. ;-)

nctag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-13T21:41:37Z2013-12-13T21:46:53Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

You can open the downloads window by hitting cmd+j, or
Tools>Downloads. This is the same command as in TFF 17, only the
downloads window is a now unified downloads/history/bookmarks
window. You can leave it open and/or resize it to your needs.

Note that you can also get the "old" small downloads window by
typing about:config in the url bar and setting
browser.download.useToolkitUI to true. However I'm pretty certain
this option will be removed sooner or later (Australis at the
latest), and I found that I got used to the new interface rather
quickly.

Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-13T21:53:00Z2013-12-13T21:53:03Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

Yeah, the Cmd-J shortcut opens a combined
history/bookmarks/downloads window that takes forever to open. The
old small window was ideal for my purposes. I do substantial
amounts of research online and need the links to my references,
which I could obtain by context-clicking on an item to bring up a
menu. Yes, the new unified window provides the link, but it opens
slowly, as I said, and does more than I want.

Not in the least sure why Mozilla ditched the small window.

And BTW, responding to a point in your original reply: Yes, I
realize these UI modifications come from FF, not TenFourFox.

nctag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-16T09:04:38Z2013-12-16T09:04:40Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

Just noticed something else: When you click on the toolbar arrow
to display download progress, it no longer shows download
speed.

So if (as happened to me twice this year) I have ISP/bandwidth
problems, I no longer can use this info to troubleshoot my
connection speed?

I'm trying really hard to see this change as progress. Not
succeeding, but trying.

Tried the user agent switcher. Set it to FF 25. Bank remains
unhappy. Perhaps they're digging deeper to discern browser
version.

nctag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-16T14:22:34Z2013-12-16T14:22:34Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

Download speed is only shown in the unified library window. This
is stupid (again) of Mozilla, but I know of no way to change it
other than leaving the library window open or using the old
downloads window (as described above).

Which bank is it?

Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-16T15:54:02Z2013-12-16T15:54:05Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

Chase.

And if the old downloads window's deprecated, I'll have to get
over the loss sooner or later.

Progress, right? 8-(

nctag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-16T18:09:43Z2013-12-16T18:09:43Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

When I use the extension to pretend to be FF 21 on Mac OS X 10.8

browser may not give you the best experience when you're on
Chase.com." message on the home page, so I guess it's happy. Of
course I can't attempt an actual login because I'm not a Chase
customer.

Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-16T20:46:16Z2013-12-16T20:46:17Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

Yes, for some reason, the FF 25 agent string doesn't work and
the FF 21 version does. Thanks for the input assistance.

The reason for the objection lies in some of those "2 tons of
JavaScript, 3 oz. of HTML" pages that proliferate on the Interwebs
these days. The bank site worked under the prior version of
TenFourFox, but some aspects of it simulated glacial movement.

nctag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-16T21:14:48Z2013-12-16T21:14:48Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

For the record, I am a Chase credit card customer, and I haven't

It may be my OS after all. The help page triggered by the link
in the warning that appears above the top of the normal page

Meh. Can't afford new hardware. I'll just use the user agent

Chase is reacting to the fact that
TenFourFox/G5 is at the end. If I move it to the middle and put
Firefox at the end, it works fine. That's pretty simple to do and
unlikely to break anything, so we'll do it for 24.0.3.

Cameron Kaisertag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-17T08:51:46Z2013-12-17T08:51:47Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

That would help a lot! developing memory leaks much faster than its predecessor did. I've
had it running for less than a week and it's scarfed up all my

With 17.x, I could keep it going for several weeks before it
reached the point at which opening a new window prompted
beachballs.

nctag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/305390022013-12-17T22:39:12Z2013-12-17T22:39:12Z24.2.0 hides download progress; still no way to assign browser identity

24 really just does require more memory. In fact, I've tuned the
