I recently downloaded TenFourFox v 17.0.7 and got nothing but freezes. It was so bad I had to go back to 17.0.6. to get anything done in the browser. I'm on a PowerPC iMac G5. Anybody else have these problems? Is there a fix planned?

I personally use 17.0.7 on my iBook G4 (and in fact was using it on my business trip this week), and have noticed no performance difference between it and .6. There are no security updates or bugfixes in this release that would materially affect the browser's speed.

If there are specific things that seem slower than they ought to be, and I can reproduce them, then that's something we can look at. However, I cannot replicate generalized freezes or slowness on my own machine(s).

    Mr./Ms. Kaiser,
The problem isn't just slowness but actual freezes.  It has happened during the following activities, mostly when using my Yahoo mail:
    1. Opening mail in my inbox.
    2. Sending mail.
    3. Saving mail to my Drafts folder.

I believe I also had problems on ixquick.com doing a search, but I wouldn't swear to that.  These are all the problems I've noticed so far.   Hope this helps.

Deborah, can you specify what you mean by "freezes"? Do you see the spinning beachball for an extended period of time, or do you have to force quit TenFourFox because it never recovers? Yahoo's new Mail web interface is known to be very heavy on the browser. Is Yahoo any faster for you if you use Safari? Sadly, Yahoo has now completely removed the "classic" interface, which was a lot faster.

    Chris,
Sorry for the delay getting back to you.  Yesterday was a very busy.  To answer your questions, by freeze I mean that nothing happens when I issue a command.  Yes, the spinning wheel is there but it never goes away.  I always have to force quit to get a command to function, and once I couldn't get Ten4Fox to do anything until after I'd force quit & re-opened three times.  That was the last straw for me, so I started using the earlier version and it has definitely been better since then.

Haven't had time to try it with Safari, but I'll do that tonight after work and let you know.  I think you're right to suspect that changes to Yahoo may be the cause.  I've never had so many problems with any previous version of Ten4Fox.

    'til later,

    Chris,
I checked out Yahoo on Safari, and it is without a doubt faster then on Ten4Fox.  I like Ten4Fox's organization and ease of use so much better than Safari but it's definitely slower.

Wish I could afford a new Mac so I could take advantage of Flash player and other new bells & whistles but it's not yet in the cards for me.

Thanks for your interest & concern,
