Unfortunately, part of
this involves the operating system, and I don't believe there's an
easy way to fix this on my end or yours. If someone has found a
workaround, I'll leave this open for them to chime in.

Cameron Kaisertag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/269095602013-05-20T20:45:08Z2013-05-20T20:45:08ZInstall both 17 and 21 and can't set 17 as Default Browser

I noticed the same thing. To me, this looks like a bug in Mac OS
X.

Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/269095602013-05-20T21:40:26Z2013-05-20T21:40:27ZInstall both 17 and 21 and can't set 17 as Default Browser

OK. On OSX 10.8 you can set either the release build (21) or the
Aurora (23) as the default and everything works as expected. These
install as different apps, one called Firefox and the other
FirefoxAurora. THis is what I tested before reporting the issue and
was able to select either on 10.8.

I decided maybe there is something with the way 17 is an ESR
release for mozilla even though it is the "release" here for
TenFourFox. TenFourFox is on 17 as "release" and 21 as
"Aurora/Beta/Nightly/Unstable" right now. But these builds have the
same names and I have to manually append the version to the name to
install both.

So I checked Firefox using the ESR 17 (TenFourFox Stable) and
the Release 21 (TenFourFox Unstable) and it results in not being
able to set the ESR build as default browser even on OSX 10.8. I
had to change the ESR name as FirefoxESR to install it.

So it is something with the Mozilla ESR and Stable build
installed on the same system that you can't select the ESR as
default. Since this happens on OSX 10.8, seems like a Mozilla bug.
Or maybe if TenFourFox was built using the "TenFourFoxAurora" name
maybe it would be recognized as a different app… Of course
the executable in all the 10.8 packages is still called Firefox in
all the Aurora, ESR and Release for regular Firefox so maybe I'm
way off.

Greg
