Hello,

I've been using Kindle Cloud Reader (https://read.amazon.com) on TenFourFox 10.0.3, but after upgrading to 17 it does not work any more - it just keep reloading itself with black blank page. I tried 19 but has a same result. I downgraded to 10 for now. Is there any workaround for this?

Thank you,
Ronald

I logged into Cloud Reader and the main Kindle screen appears on 17.0.4 and the internal build of 19.0.2 -- I do see a dark screen briefly, but it continues.

I note that Kindle does require saving offline data. If you have this disabled for some reason, it won't work properly.

I'd strongly recommend a profile reset here to make sure that there are no stuck settings or bad cookies.

I was able to see the main screen after doing a profile reset, but I couldn't actually read or download a book. More importantly, same symptom came back after restarting TenFourFox. I also tried manual profile reset by deleting the folder, but same result. I'm not an expert on browser development, but maybe there's something different on dealing with html5 offline apps between TFF 10 and 17?

I checked the error console and here's the error that keeps repeating:

Do you have any add-ons installed? Some will interfere with certain sites.

I don't have any add-ons installed. I actually deleted few ones I had before to check whether they are related to this issue.

If you hold down Option and start TenFourFox, you should enter safe mode (a dialogue will confirm). Does that change anything?

I just tried it but still got same result. So there was no problem using(reading/downloading books) kindle reader on your machines? I'm using TFF on my Powerbook G4 15-inch 1.5Ghz, with OS X 10.4.11.

I don't use Cloud Reader, so I can't really evaluate that. Perhaps someone else can report in. (That's also going to make it tough to fix, since it'll require someone who actually uses the service to write the patch, unless it turns out to be a Mozilla bug.)

Ronald, you lucked out. I decided to try it out in an internal debugging build of 20 just to see what it would do, and I think I understand the problem. This problem is now tracked as http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/issues/detail?id=213

Ronald, please try 17.0.5 (now available for testing; see http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/ ). You will probably need to clear your databases; try it first and see. If it doesn't work without clearing them, go to Preferences > Advanced > Network and remove the databases listed in the bottom pane. You shouldn't lose any purchases, but you will need to download previously downloaded offline books again.

Using 17.0.5, I was able to read and grab free books on the test machines.

Ok, it now seems to be working very well once again; I've been using 19.0.2 recently so I eventually had to do a profile reset as it didn't work at first when I only replaced TFF from Applications folder. (It showed the main Kindle screen but downloading option got disabled) Otherwise, downloading and reading work without any problems. Looking forward to upcoming TFF 20!

Glad to hear it. 20 will be out probably next weekend once I finish investigating a performance regression; the switch from 19 to 17 might have scrambled Amazon a bit, but good to hear the profile reset worked. If 20 shows no more evidence of this problem, no further reply needed; if it does, just reply and this ticket will automatically reopen.
