The website uses
about 50% CPU initially, and drops to 6% when the Right Now section

see a difference.</p>
<p>But it never "thrashes" (which I interpret as "100% CPU

What processor/speed does you Mac have? If you're able to run

just not very responsive. I have tried TenFourFox 17.0.2 and 17.0.3

<p>have the same problem with our page, where I'm even using CSS
compression:<br>
<a href=
"http://www.seaplane.aero/en/">http://www.seaplane.aero/en/</a><br>
Ok, on the Home page there's a flash video background, which
10.4Fox doesn't know.<br>
But what about the rest? Try sliding over the menu - its buttons
are supposed to go smoothly down. And what about the slideshows
under Versions?</p>
<p>Apart from that the HTML5 videos of youtube are unwatchable! How
exactly do you see surfing without watching vids? Is it woth
ditching Flash?<br>
There's also a guy, who fixed the flash update issue so you can
fool the websites that you use Flash 11.5! Using this with Safari
makes the youtube videos FLY on my<br>
iMac G5 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 128MB VRAM, OS X 10.5.8.</p>
<p>I appreciate your work for keeping us safe with this browser,
but is it really an option - using two browsers in order to surf
safely and watch youtube normally?</p>
<p>Also: my system is pretty clean after using onyx, ifreemem and
the HDD has 85 GB free space.</p>
<p>Looking forward to hear what's the matter with browsing our
website! ;)</p>
<p>Cheers!</p></div>drontag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662013-07-11T07:07:02Z2013-07-11T07:07:02ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>Hello dron,</p>
<p>to be honest, I'm frustrated as well sometimes about the loss of
plugins in TenFourFox, but it can't be helped. It's either option
one: using Flash and staying at an outdated and insecure html
rendering core, or option two: offering the most recent
html/css/javascript.</p>
<p>Since there is Safari/Camino/Omniweb/Opera 10 where Flash still
works, I'm actually glad there's TenFourFox that goes for the
second option. And of course you can use a two-browser strategy. If
you use Safari for stuff that needs Flash, and do your online
banking and other stuff that needs security and more modern html
features with TenFourFox, that perfectly fine to me. By the way I
do use html5 video for YouTube. It's not exactly the smoothest
experience on my PowerBook G4,but it's tolerable. If there's no
html5 option for a specific video, I download it and watch if
offline.</p>
<p>I tried loading <a href=
"http://www.seaplane.aero/en/">http://www.seaplane.aero/en/</a>,
however I'm getting an Internal Server Error repeatedly, so I can't
reproduce your problem with this page right now. Have you tried
using a fresh Firefox profile or disabling add-ons to see if it
loads quicker?</p>
<p>Your iMac G5 is a single core Mac, so it shouldn't be affected
by the speed problem described here <a href=
"http://tenfourfox.blogspot.de/2013/07/useful-tips-making-threads-out-of-tiger.html">
http://tenfourfox.blogspot.de/2013/07/useful-tips-making-threads-ou...</a>
Of course, if it <em>is</em> affected, this would be a very useful
hint for fixing this problem.</p></div>Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662013-07-11T09:34:17Z2013-07-11T09:34:19ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>Hi again,</p>
<p>my iMac has one G5 processor indeed. Besides, I experience
performance problems only on some websites, which also include our
<a href="http://www.seaplane.aero">www.seaplane.aero</a>, and the
rest – not more than in safari.<br>
Sometimes our webhosting sucks, therefore maybe will work again
later or just by typing in "seaplane.aero". I can open the site any
time now, sitting in Germany.<br>
If it doesn't work, could you please give me your location and
browsing data so that I can kick our hosting provider's ass? ;)</p></div>drontag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662013-07-11T10:21:13Z2013-07-11T10:21:13ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>The website loads now, it takes about 5 seconds. The menu to the
left works, and the buttons go down smoothly. They're not pressed
instantly, but this effect rather looks like intended to me, a sort
of quick animation of the buttons. It's very smooth, and it looks
cool. The slide show is also played normally, with a new picture
every 5 seconds. I see no processor thrashing or slowness
whatsoever. I'm on a PowerBook G4 1.33 GHz.</p></div>Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662013-07-11T11:05:42Z2013-07-11T11:05:43ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>Oh man, can't believe the older G4 handles it better than a G5
with the OS Leopard!<br>
I've just installed the unstable 22.0 release and had unfortunately
to discover...<br>
1. that the problem with the menus is still there and the CPU is
literally freaking out when hovering over it, even the cursor is
getting slower and the CPU fan nose tells me that my iMac is just
about to take off! Same happens with slideshow and also its
controls on the right, and...<br>
2. there is no language files available for v. 22.0 yet. I think
that if you gather usage data about 22.0, it will be very useful to
offer language files - this way you could reach much more people
and gather more data.</p>
<p>You're right, the animation in the menu is intended to be
smooth, as one of the contact form fields.</p>
<p>Maybe the difference is that you use 10.4Fox for G4 and mine is
for G5? I mean, they seem to be kind of different programs.</p></div>drontag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662013-07-11T11:17:25Z2013-07-11T11:17:25ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>Sorry, the cursor doesn't really get slower, was just a
misinterpretation of mine.<br>
But the buttons' "follow" the cursor slowly and inadequately, also
the submenu opens pretty laggy.</p></div>drontag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662013-07-11T11:39:42Z2013-07-11T11:39:42ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>My PowerBook is also on Leopard. I don't have a G5 here to test
with, however on my G3 Pismo (400 MHz(!), Tiger) the website, once
it's loaded (after about 35 seconds), the menu is a bit laggy, but
I see the same smooth animation for the buttons, and the website is
usable.</p>
<p>Unless it's a G5 specific issue, I'm pretty sure the website
will be fine if you try a fresh user profile. The easiest way to
test this quickly is this:</p>
<p>1) quit TFF, and make sure it's really quit, which may take a
while<br>
2) in the Finder, go to your user Library/Application Support and
move the Firefox folder to your desktop. This folder contains your
profile with bookmarks, add-ons etc.<br>
3) start TFF. It will act like it's never been started before.<br>
4) visit the site in question and observe performance<br>
5) Now quit TFF and move the Firefox folder from your desktop back
into Application Support. There will be a new Firefox folder in
there, which can be replaced. Make sure you're replacing the right
thing. If unsure, back up you Firefox folder to another harddrive
beforehand.</p>
<p>If the site loads normal now, you know you probably have an
add-on that slows stuff down, or a whacky preferences
configuration. If this is the case, we'll see what we can do
later.</p>
<p>We don't offer localizations for beta versions, however if you
want to test a bit, here's a test version (German only): <a href=
"http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/issues/detail?id=61">http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/issues/detail?id=61</a>
Scroll down to the bottom.</p></div>Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662013-07-11T14:33:59Z2013-07-11T14:34:03ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>Hi Chris,</p>
<p>2) there's no Firefox folder, instead a Mozilla folder. Probabyl
should have mentioned "user" before /library/application support
;)<br>
4) don't know how to start this mode, couldn't find it. If you
simply meant that I should look how the site works now and test the
mentioned instances, then I did it and it's still the same.</p>
<p>The only add-on I use is the AdBlockPlus 2.2.4, which was during
this last test disabled everywhere before action (1).</p>
<p>The animation of the buttons is smooth as is should be, if you
hover just a single menu item, but the CPU load is up to 75% an the
iMac starts wheeping. If you go up and down the menu bar, the
processor load reaches 78% sometimes and the average is around 60%.
The most annoying lagg happens while hovering Versions, making the
submenu fold out.</p>
<p>What do you mean by "whacky preferences configuration"? The
browser's prefs? How should they be best?</p>
<p>Cool! The German language installation worked! Many thanks!</p></div>drontag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662013-07-11T15:12:31Z2013-07-11T15:12:31ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>If it's still the same with a fresh profile, then there may
indeed be a difference in the G5 version. My PowerBook doesn't go
over 50% CPU hovering up and down the menu, which I would consider
normal. However, >70% istn't completely unusable. In Safari, I
see exactly the same slight lag between buttons.</p>
<p>If you click "Help", then "Troubleshooting Information", you'll
get a list of modified preferences. But it's not necessary. There's
not much I can do right now. It needs to be tested on another
G5.</p></div>Chris (chtrusch)tag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662013-07-11T21:23:26Z2013-07-11T21:23:28ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>When you do, could you please write about it here, so I'll get a

On my own G5 I do see what you are referring to, but because of
known threading problems on 10.4, I can't really distinguish
between those and anything specific to your 10.5 system. The first
thing is to upgrade the allocator, which is issue 218, and then to
see what remains. However, the highest priority for version 24 is
to get the JavaScript JIT working again with IonMonkey and
BaselineCompiler, so I cannot make any guarantees about when that
can be updated.</p></div>Cameron Kaisertag:tenfourfox.tenderapp.com,2012-01-07:Comment/252196662017-09-28T19:13:37Z2017-09-28T19:13:38ZProcessor Thrashing<div><p>10.5.8 Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 TenFourFox maxes out both processors.<br>
