Frequent Crashes with 17.0/17.0.1 in Google Reader
Since updating to 17 from the 10 branch, I've been experiencing very frequent crashes when advancing to next unread items in google reader. It is not deterministic, it doesn't not happen every time or every Nth time. But it happens so much that I can easily capture several crash reports in a short timespan. So it's reproducible.
To reproduce,
Open https://www.google.com/reader/
Add subscriptions to blogs, news sites so you have a lot of unread
items.
Navigate between unread items until the browser crashes (this can
be with keyboard-based navigation or with mouse-based)
One thing to note is that right before the crash happens, the fact that the item has been read is transmitted back to google's servers. So to crash always occurs AFTER this server call has been made from the client.

Another crash report for the same type of crash at a different time.

I see plugins in both crash dumps. Enabling plugins is unsupported. Please ensure that it occurs with them off, and resubmit a crash dump under those circumstances.

I disabled plugins and now after many hours of use have not experienced a crash.
Unfortunately, I can't get acceptable video performance without the flash plugin enabled :( Maybe it's finally time to put my old G5 out to pasture.
Thanks!

Regrettably, while we don't support plugins, I will say that I have observed more crashes related to plugins under 17 than under 10, and since Mozilla has been removing support for older-type plugins progressively (in 18+ they won't work at all), it seems likely one of these changes is affecting you. However, I'm not planning to reverse any of them, especially since the stance on plugins has existed since 6.0 and I'm not sure which of them or what combination is responsible.
If you absolutely can't work without Flash, sadly, I agree it's probably time to upgrade.
