TFF Slow?
Hello,
I appreciate so much you guys helping me keep my old G5 from total
obsolescence!!! I just wanted to mention that the new release,
TFF17, seems to run slower and more sluggish than the last version
(10.0.1 ?), just to make you aware of it. Maybe it's just me, since
I don't see any more posts about it...

Although I'm working on a speed improvement, the same issue was present in 10. I don't have any reports of abnormal slowness by comparison, and without a specific quantifiable benchmark showing regression in some component, fixing "overall slow" wouldn't be possible in any case. You're certainly welcome to use 10.0.11 temporarily until 17.0.1 comes out, but do be advised 10.0.11 is the last version of 10.* that will be officially built barring a serious issue.

Thanks for replying. I'm gonna see if I can find 10.0.11 again and do some comparative surfing. I'm not very 'puter literate, I just know that since I switched, it's extremely slow, for me...... Maybe I need to update the Add-Ons, I just don't know....

That's always a wise idea, or at least eliminating some of the ones you know you aren't using. You can get 10.0.11 from the main page; there are download links there.

Yeah, I may be a lone wolf, but I just went back to 10.0.11 and it's way way more fast than 17, at least on my G5. I'm not very computer savvy, though....

Hi. I weighed in a couple of weeks back on this with my G5. Apparently, it has to do with how the libraries load in a Mozilla browser. The TenFourFox team have to work with this design feature, but I've noticed a speed improvement going to the Beta 17 release, and now I'm running the upgrade v17. The slowness only appeared on initial start, afterwards, the browser is very snappy and responsive, so it's not really an issue now. Maybe look into other issues. Check your activity monitor for other running processes. As an example, I've noticed a major slowdown for short periods of time if my Sophos anti-virus is auto updating (which you can see happening in the top finder menu bar). This often happens when you start up and go right online, the update competes with bandwidth for the browser.
