Not Supported in this architecture
Gents,
I've tried to update to both Ten Four Fox .3 & .4, and when I attempt to open them, I get an error message saying that they are not supported in this architecture. But earlier versions run fine, and my computer hasn't had any changes. Any idea how I might correct this?

I know which browser I'm trying to open. I get the architecture message when I try to open TenFourFox version 10.0.3 or 10.0.4. Earlier versions work (I'm using 10.0.2 to enter this). I have a PowerPC Mac running OS X 10.5.8.

What is your specific PPC CPU (you can type "machine" into a Terminal window for this), and which build are you trying to run?

My "machine" is a PPC 7450, I downloaded & am trying to install the 7450 (G4e) download...

Okay. That version works just fine on my iBook G4, which is also a ppc7450. If you are able, fire up Terminal and enter the following (case is sensitive; you can cut and paste them right into the window):
cd "/Applications/TenFourFox7450.app/Contents/MacOS"
lipo -info XUL firefox js *.dylib
This will tell me what your system believes the binary architecture is. If it gives you errors or appears corrupt, you should redownload the file. If it says ppc7450 and it still won't launch, I can't duplicate this on my own 7450 G4 systems, so I'm not sure what to tell you. You could try the 7400 build just to see (it will work, just not as well).

That all looks correct. While you still have the terminal window open, type
/Applications/TenFourFox7450.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox
and report what appears when you do.
I just tried it on another 7450 here at the house and it works there as well, and I am seeing checkins on the update server from both 10.4 and 10.5 7450 machines, so something is different about yours.

When I type in that command, the computer attempts to open TenFourFox 10.0.1. Nothing appears in the terminal window...
Support Staff 9 Posted by Chris (chtrusch... on 25 Apr, 2012 02:01 PM
…meaning that all other terminal commands you just tried were also referring to 10.0.1. Can you re-download TFF 10.0.4, put that file to the desktop, unzip, and start the TFF app directly from there by double clicking it?

Here's something weird for ya - I downloaded TenFourFox using Safari vice the TenFourFox v 10.0.2, and it opened right up... Something was being corrupted in the download/unzip process...
Thanks for all your help!

That was my guess.
Just for clarification, two questions:
Nautiker, what utility do you use for unzipping? The Mac OS X built-in, or another one?
Cameron, if the .zip file isn't downloaded completely, it should give an error message when trying to unzip, right? Or would it in some cases unzip to an incomplete application without an error message?

I was using a program with TenFourFox 10.0.2 called "Zipeg" (which I'm now tempted to trash)... Using Safari, the native Mac OS X unzip just opened it naturally...
Support Staff 13 Posted by Cameron Kaiser on 25 Apr, 2012 02:49 PM
Aha. Zipeg is known to corrupt executables it unpacks -- it works fine for other kinds of archives, but not for applications. I should add this to the FAQ, as you're the second or third one to report that problem.
As you have already discovered, the native OS X archiver will unpack the .zip correctly.

Nautiker, I'm going to assume you're up and back in operation, but please reopen this if you are not. I added this to the FAQ for future users.
